Transformation By Intention

Transformation at FFS isn’t just a pillar – it’s part of our operating system. We embed it into every layer of our business through environmental consciousness, people development, and responsible growth strategies for all our stakeholders.

Sustainability in Practice

Our sustainability commitment isn’t just a statement — it’s a series of concrete actions that reduce environmental impact, improve efficiency, and contribute to a cleaner future. Here’s how we’re making it happen across our operations.

Supplier & Enterprise Development

Growing Businesses. Empowering Communities.

FFS has extensive Enterprise and Supplier Development programs and partners with black-owned various SMMEs, providing operational opportunities and long-term business support. Many of these partners also run their own community upliftment initiatives.

Procurement

Inclusive, Ethical, Transparent

FFS prioritises B-BBEE-compliant suppliers and works closely with black-owned businesses to ensure our supply chain is fair, ethical, and transformative.

Skills Development & Training

Skills That Last a Lifetime

Through hands-on training, learnerships, and bursaries, FFS develops artisans, technicians, and future engineers — building skills that strengthen both our industry and the communities we serve.

Empowering Talent with Practical Experience

Skills are the currency of opportunity. FFS invests in a range of programs to equip youth with the tools they need for meaningful careers:

Workplace Integrated Learning (Cadets):

Hands-on training for students in chemistry, engineering, and instrumentation nationwide.

Disabled Learnerships:

Providing inclusive skills training in business administration, IT, and accounting.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

Supporting tradespeople on their path to formal qualifications.

Durban South Training Trust:

Youth Employment Service (YES):

Bursary Support:

Partnering with Fatlhosang Development Trust, we fund university education to remove financial barriers for promising students, including those with disabilities.

Growing Local Enterprise for a Thriving Economy

We believe that a strong local economy starts with supporting black-owned businesses. FFS actively nurtures emerging enterprises by:

  • Procuring from BBBEE-certified suppliers, especially EMEs and QSEs.
  • Offering business and technological support to help suppliers scale efficiently.
  • Encouraging subcontracting that benefits black individuals, youth, women, and those with disabilities—ranging from 30% to 51% ownership targets.

Our consistent Level 1 BBBEE status and 61.11% black ownership (including 35.38% black women ownership) reflect our commitment to accelerating economic inclusion and job creation in South Africa.

Changing Lives, One Skill at a Time

Our national skills development programs in 2023 and 2024 have made measurable impacts on workforce readiness and community upliftment.
