They look nothing like each other. Eastern Mole sits inside the Port of Cape Town with water on two sides. Maydon Wharf is berth and pipework. Evander is a tank farm on the Highveld with grass to the horizon. From the ground you take these in one angle at a time, usually through a fence. From the air the whole thing resolves into a shape. Tank tops read as circles, pipe runs straighten into lines, road tankers park like models.

Fifty-two years of building has left a lot on the ground. This is the first time we’ve seen all of it from above.
